Special Delivery

This year, we created a very special holiday card for the Port of Vancouver. Santa has a little trouble with his navigation system and has to make an emergency landing at the port. Art Director Alicia Mickes provided the art direction and cool illustrations. This e card highlights all the port's services and strengths from road, river and rail and proved to be a very amusing and charming way to get the message out.

John and Roberta

Using less energy doesn't require sacrifice in life style. John and his wife Roberta are perfect examples. Real life Avista customers who have been making little changes that add up to big changes in their energy bill.

Hit the Sky Running

You don't often get the chance to launch a start up airline. Faced with horrible travel options between Seattle and Portland, SeaPort airlines came onto the scene and cut travel time in half between the two cities. We used an Japanese illustrator named Otani Ryuji who created a nice, fresh look for us. In all, we created 4 illustrations that found there way into a multimedia campaign featuring a outdoor boards along the I-5 corridor, in terminal posters, magazine and newspaper print ads, web banners and electronic emails.

SeaPort Field Trip

I got to take a fun trip to Seattle on SeaPort just to check out the ride. Fast, smooth and hassle free. Makes me want to get back into aviation!

Kuni Box

Kuni Automotive had a fun project for us. Help them secure a smart car dealership. They were heading down to Las Vegas to meet with United Auto who was in charge of setting up dealerships for this cute little car all over America. Kuni, with car dealerships in Portland, Seattle and Denver wanted to get in the action. From an initial drawing of an idea I had, we created a box that contained a kit to build the ultimate smart car dealership. It was complete with cars, dealerships, landscape and customers. Just color them in and punch them out for easy assembly. Carrie Asby produced it with Karl Schroeder, Tyler Kongsly and Eric Stevens providing a lot of the ingredients to make it cool. The kit was sent out to key decision makers prior to the big meeting in Las Vegas. It was very well received and Kuni ended up getting 2 smart car dealerships.

Artists for the Arts

I was flattered to get a call from Scott Huber and Carrie Asby asking for my participation in an ad campaign they were working on for Artists for the Arts. It was a lot of fun and all I had to do was provide the eye candy for the ad! Edis Jurcys took the photograph of me with the pouting face. I liked how the ad was laid out and hope that it was successful. Fortunately, this campaign wasn't all riding on my mug!

Beer Labels

We'd been doing ads and websites for Nestucca Ridge Developers so it came as no surprise when they asked us to help them out with some beer labels for one of their most well known properties, The Pelican Pub and Brewery. These seasonal beer labels kept the basic look of their traditional beers but we had fun coming up with names for the seasonal beers and doing a little customizing with the labels without losing the basic and core elements.

House of Rebates

There are great rebates available for installing energy efficient items into your home. The problem was the rebates were hardly noticed. So we came with this idea, "House of Rebates" as a fun interactive way to show all the places residential customers can save energy and money in their house. The micro site was immediately well received with a 18% increase in rebates and a huge increase in traffic to the rebate section of their existing site.

Metro Recycling

Every day, 20 tons of would be recyclables ends up going off to the landfill because glass and plastic bags get mixed into recycling bins. We created this rolling display that we parked in prominent locations throughout the metro area. It garnered a ton of attention by local television news and of course, the folks walking by.

Rediscovery

Beginning in January 2009, all bars, restaurants, bingo halls and bowling alleys will be smoke free. As part of a much larger awareness and educational campaign to get the word out, these ads invited the non smokers to rediscover some of the places they might have shied away from because of the smoke.

PGE Park

Finding the Fan Van turned out to be the most challenge with this effort. We finally found one in Vancouver that was in good operating condition. It's a 1951 Ford step van that was owned by a mechanic. We designed the graphics for the van and the ads to match the retro feel of PGE Park. The Fan Van was driven out to neighborhood little league games and events to give out free ball park swag.

Hotel Modera

Hotel Modera was a cool project! Holst Architects took a downtown mid century eyesore and turned into a modern, chic hang out. We helped out with the identity package for Hotel Modera including logo, letterhead, business cards, collateral and introduction ads. I worked with art director Martha Koenig on this. She developed a sweet logo and really poured her heart and soul into this project.

Imelda's Anniversary

Imelda's celebrated it's 15th anniversary this year. I've been doing ads for them from the beginning. We established a nice consistent brand look and voice for them and branding seems to be a big part of their success.

Tonkon Torp

Most lawyer marketing touts specialties, photos of the attorney, and all the charm and marketing sophistication usually associated with retail advertising. Not much brand building going on. That was different with Tonkon, they wanted to stand for something more. After some research into who they are and what made them so unique, we created the positioning of "There's no substitute for talent." One of my favorite ads was the one with the plumber.
